In today’s Nigerian property market, everybody is suddenly a real estate company, from Instagram sellers to “CEO of Landed Properties” with no office address. And with land scams rising every year, choosing the right company is literally the difference between owning land and owning premium tears.
Before you hand over your hard-earned money, here’s how to know a real estate company you can actually trust.
1. They Have a Physical Office You Can Walk Into
Trusted companies don’t hide behind WhatsApp logos and Instagram pages.
A legitimate real estate firm will have:
- A functional physical office
- A verifiable business address
- Staff you can meet in person
- Proper registration certificates displayed
If a company keeps giving you excuses like:
“Madam we are renovating,” “Let’s meet at a café,” “Our office is moving”…
Please, run with your bag.
2. Their Properties Have Clear, Verifiable Titles
Any real estate company worth your money will proudly show you:
- Survey plans
- Land titles (Gazette, C of O, Governor’s Consent, etc.)
- Registered layouts
- Legal documentation
And guess what? They won’t tell you “Don’t worry, it’s in process.”
Everything is verifiable at the state land registry.
A trustworthy company encourages verification, scammers avoid it.
3. They Don’t Pressure You With Fake Urgency
Scam companies love the “Buy now! Last plot remaining!” strategy.
Meanwhile, the estate still has over 200 plots available.
A legit company will NOT:
- Rush you to pay
- Force you to “lock your slot”
- Threaten that the price will double by tomorrow
They understand due diligence takes time.
If the pressure is too much, the scam is close.
4. Their Online Presence Looks Professional, Not Like a Side Hustle
A good real estate brand invests in how they show up online.
Check for:
- A real website (not a free template with typos)
- Verified Google listing
- Consistent branding
- Professional brochures and site videos
- Real client testimonials (not stock photos)
If their content looks like it was designed during NEPA outage, be guided
Final Thoughts
In 2025, buying property in Nigeria is not just a purchase, it’s a serious investment.
And the only way to protect your peace (and your bank account) is to work with a real estate company you can trust.
